The aim of St. Gerald’s DLS College TY Programme is to give students opportunities to discover and develop their individual gifts and strengths. To become more independent and to experience a year where the emphasis will be cultivating individual responsibility for study and self-directed learning. The programme aims also to develop the maturity, social awareness and self confidence of the individual through experiences of adult and working life.
During this year the students are introduced to the Leaving Certificate and at least 40% of the timetable is devoted to the study of the academic subjects. Each student has the opportunity to experience a selection of options before making his final subject choice for the Leaving Certificate.
All Leaving Certificate subjects are offered this year. Students are exposed to a wider concept of education – education for its own sake. Hence great emphasis is placed on student activity, on the development of the imagination and the emotions, on communication skills, on teamwork and co-operation.
