St. Gerald’s DLS College provides its students with the opportunity to take part in public debates, speeches and presentations as part of the School Debate Club. Through active participation in the School Debate Club, students will learn and develop skills that will reap lifelong benefits. The ability to research, communicate and think critically are all essential qualities required not only in the classroom, but in everyday life, including the workplace.
It is a misconception that debating is only for the most confident and assertive speakers. Students of all backgrounds and abilities that actively take part in the School Debate Club often discover a newfound self-belief that comes from conquering the fear of speaking in public. The debaters are encouraged to bring their passions to the table, be it sporting, academic, cultural or otherwise. The School Debate Club not only offers its members the chance to develop the qualities of leadership but to also experience what it means to be a valuable member of a team.
