St. Gerald's DLS College

The Art Department in the school is a vibrant environment with on-going projects in a variety of crafts. Printmaking and 3D work in clay modelling, wire construction and plaster of Paris are explored. In an exhibition held in the Linen Hall in 2018, a selection of Second Year Plaster of Paris figures were displayed alongside vibrant and playful First Year Oil pastel images of faces.

Examples of Leaving Certificate and Fifth year prints and painting on themes such as Metamorphosis were also on view.

Transition Year students utilised their surroundings in town to create a variety of Linoprints showing many different viewpoints of the local area.

Linoprinting involves design skills with simplification of a drawing, transfer of design to lino and then carving and cutting the lino to achieve a variety of marks. The lino is then inked and printed to achieve a series of prints. The linoprint works on exhibition were evidence of the students’ design, cutting and planning skills combined with creative choices.

In St. Gerald’s DLS College, students of all ages are encouraged to express their creative side and to develop their art, craft and design skills.
